Northern Valley Catholic Social Services (NVCSS) CalFresh Healthy Living (CFHL) program worked with 7 schools in a Shasta County school district to implement a food waste reduction, recovery, and redistribution program.
Text2LiveHealthy is a nutrition and physical activity text message outreach program funded by USDA, SNAP-Ed. The focus of the program is to provide nutrition and physical activity education to SNAP eligible communities.
Students learned about an ancient method of seed dispersal and seeding without the need for containers of any kind. The team introduced new, novel garden-based activities such as seed balls to keep learners engaged and connected to the curriculum.
It can be easy to only eat the foods we already love and that are in our nearby surroundings. In Wisconsin elementary school classrooms, encouragement to try two bites of a new food is a great way to expand those horizons.
Cooking classes not only have continued during the pandemic, but the Poe Center for Health Education’s SNAP-Ed cooking programs increased the number of participants by transitioning to virtual platforms.
