    In 2018, a SNAP-Ed Extension Agent in southwest Virginia, from Shop Smart, Eat Smart, cold called a store manager hoping to start a partnership. Looking back, the Extension Agent thought this approach may have been overwhelming for the store manage, but it worked!

  • LSU AgCenter Supports PSE Changes in Louisiana

    The small town of Crowville, Louisiana has one corner store, one restaurant, and one dollar store – but no grocery store. Thanks to a partnership between Louisiana State University (LSU) AgCenter SNAP-Ed and a group of passionate community leaders, the local dollar store now features fresh produce, healthy snacks, and healthy shopping resources from the LSU AgCenter’s Geaux Shop Healthy program. 

  • Partnering to Promote Food Security - Virginia Fresh Match

    Across Virginia, SNAP-Ed helps promote SNAP match programs at SNAP-accepting farmers markets. To do this, Virginia SNAP-Ed formed a partnership with Virginia Fresh Match and the Virginia Farmers Market Association. These collaborations contributed to increased sales and SNAP redemption at farmers markets. 

  • Grocery Stores Receive Healthy Drink Recipes

    The goal of Rethink Your Drink Nevada (RYD) is to promote healthy beverage choices and decrease the intake of sugary drinks among households with young, school-age children (6-12 years-old). In 2017, RYD started to work with grocery stores in low-income communities to promote choosing healthy drinks where families shop. The team distributed free recipes for low-cost, simple, and healthy drinks at in-store events.  

  • Cooking Alone…Together! SNAP-Ed in Massachusetts Reaches New Audiences by Moving Online

    Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters in Massachusetts (a SNAP-Ed partner) provides practical food skills education for individuals to purchase and prepare foods that meet their nutrition, budget, and personal needs. Since this program began in Massachusetts in 1994, over 45,000 people learned these crucial skills and found solutions for common struggles such as limited time, money, and feeding picky kids.

    The Northgate Gonzalez Markets supermarket chain has done a lot to create a healthy environment in their stores. Northgate is a Latin-focused chain of stores that has served the community for more than 30 years. They have worked with local public health groups since 2015 and have done many projects to promote health.
