On December 7, 2022, the Food and Nutrition Service SNAP Nutrition Education Branch (NEB) hosted a first-quarter kickoff presentation for Fiscal Year (FY) 2023! The branch invites all SNAP-Ed stakeholders, including States, Implementing Agencies, and partners team members, to view and get to know the new team members, hear an overview of the Branch, and get a recap of major projects NEB is working on.

2021 SNAP-Ed SWRO and MPRO Cross-Regional Impact Report Webinar

The Mountain Plains Region (MPR) and the Southwest Region (SWR) have released the third edition of the cross-regional impact report examining regional successes and impact of the SNAP-Ed program. This 1-hour webinar includes opening remarks by Philip Fraley, SNAP Branch Chief in MPRO, an overview of the 2021 report structure and organization, highlights of the regional outcomes, and state sharing presentations from Kansas and Arizona SNAP-Ed programs.

SNAP-Ed Needs Assessment Webinar 1: Needs Assessment Purpose and Planning

FNS led a webinar on for State agency staff to discuss the purpose and planning stage of SNAP-Ed needs assessment and the role of State agencies. The session included highlights from the soon-to-be-released SNAP-Ed Needs Assessment Toolkit, large group activities exploring benefits and challenges of ways to organize needs assessments, and regional breakouts for State agency staff to discuss with colleagues how they might operate the needs assessment. SNAP-Ed Needs Assessment Webinar 2: State-Level Approach

Food and Nutrition Service hosted a webinar on the state level needs assessment process. This webinar was intended for State and implementing agencies and any of their staff and subcontractors involved with the needs assessment process. It covered topics such as identifying data sources, collecting new data, and synthesizing data to understand needs and featured a State agency roundtable discussion with Diana Driver (TX), Jessica Rochester (MN), and Latresh Davenport (GA). The University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension and Milwaukee Food Council discusses their Collective Action Initiative at the local level, and the Wisconsin SNAP-Ed Program shares efforts to expand collective action at the state level with other SNAP-Ed Implementing Agencies and grantees, including tribal organizations. West Virginia University and the WV Food and Farm Coalition discusses their collaboration between SNAP-Ed and the Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program grantee. The San Bernardino County Department of Health SNAP-Ed program discusses their leadership in coalition building to address food insecurity during the public health emergency.

This 75-minute session starts with a discussion of how SNAP-Ed activities can be implemented to advance racial equity by framing the issue of racial equity in SNAP-Ed, the directive from the USDA, the definition of racial equity, and how we can work to engage communities to advance racial equity. It ends with time for reflection.

FY 2020 Cross-Regional Impact Report Webinar

The Mountain Plains Region (MPR) and the Southwest Region (SWR) released the second edition of the Cross-Regional Impact Report (PDF, 68.4 MB) examining regional successes and impacts of SNAP-Ed programming during the COVID-19 pandemic. This presentation highlights the work that state and implementing agencies did to provide quality services to low-income and vulnerable Americans. It includes:

SNAP-Ed Stakeholder Session

In late December 2020, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 mandated a 2% set-aside from SNAP-Ed state allocations for FY 2021. The funds were to be used for administration, training and technical assistance, and pilot projects. 

Webinar includes:

  • Opening remarks by Jessica Shahin, Associate Administrator, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
  • Explanation of how FY 2021 final allocations were calculated, with clarification on changes due to the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
  • Presentation of technical assistance and special projects to be implemented using 2% funding.
  • Question and Answer Session.
