When is Okra in Season?

  • Summer
  • Fall

Okra is a finger-shaped, green fuzzy pod that has a mild taste similar to an eggplant. Choose okra that are bright green and firm and not dried out. Store in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Wash with cold water before cooking. Add okra to soups, stews, and stir-fries.

Fun fact: Prevent okra from becoming slimy by adding other acidic ingredients (like tomatoes or vinegar) while cooking.
