When are Leeks in Season?
- Winter
Leeks look like large green onions but have a sweeter and milder taste. Leeks can be eaten raw or cooked and can be used in recipes that call for onions. Store unwashed leeks in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks and rinse before using. Add leeks to soups, salads, casseroles or whole grain dishes.
Fun fact: Leeks have a relatively long growing time as it takes up to 5 months from being planted to harvest.
