When are Cherries in Season?

  • Summer

There are 2 common types of cherries grown in the United States – sweet cherries and tart, also called sour cherries. Ripe cherries should be stored in the refrigerator in a loosely sealed plastic bag. Do not wash cherries until you are ready to eat. Fresh cherries make a great snack or can be added to plain yogurt or oatmeal, muffins, and quick breads.

Fun fact: There are over 1,000 varieties of cherries with different colors, shapes and tartness.
