    “New Mainers,” are from numerous countries of origin and participants have represented at least six different languages. With the support of interpreters, adult and youth participants overcome language and cultural barriers to learn key nutrition concepts. Adult participants learn how to shop and prepare healthy and familiar meals on a limited budget, an essential skill to support adjustment to their new communities.

    SNAP-Ed health educators at the Poe Center for Health Education have partnered with congregate meal sites in their region to help keep their participants healthy and moving.  Through a 16-week evidence-based exercise program entitled Stay Strong Stay Healthy (SSSH), participants develop the fitness, flexibility, and balance needed to live independently longer.

In 2021, COVID-19 remained a threat to the public’s health and in-person gatherings continued to be restricted. The CDPH CalFresh Healthy Living public relations team developed new strategies and tactics, while maintaining the vision of promoting healthy snacks and drinks.
