This activity kit provides instructions for conducting a luncheon for 30-40 community members, to experience budgeting a meal as Food Stamp recipients. Program is based on the USDA Thrifty Meal Plan. Participants are challenged to spend $1.50 for one meal using fake 'funny money' from a choice of prepared foods. The material provides examples and suggestions based on luncheons conducted in Utah and Wyoming Cooperative Extension Programs, and is based on 1999 food pricing.
This activity provides a fun format to educate community members on the Food Stamp Program. Instructions encourage discussion of poverty and nutrition education. Recipes are also included in this activity. However, not all list ingredients in order of use.
